Boatbuilding Workshop
Lots of fun for kids building boats, pirates and even the occasional parrot..
What Happens
Children are given a choice of pre-cut shapes/models to make / decorate - 3D Boats, Sandcastles and or Beach Huts, and 2D Mermaids, Pirates, Fish and Sharks. (The models/shapes are made from coloured corrugated plastic - mostly recycled).
Children are free to decorate as they wish using an exciting range materials including sticky back plastic, chalk paint pens, pipe cleaners, fabrics and more!
The workshops are run on a drop-in basis by 2 artists.
They can do a max of 5 hrs workshop with a break of around 45 mins in the middle.
They can accommodate around 20-25 children at a time and children tend to spend from 15 mins to 40 mins making but if it's really busy they may limit making time to keep up with demand!
They will bring all equipment, materials, making tables, signboard and materials. The workshops are aimed at 4-11yr olds and they ask parents to stay or be within sight while their child is making.
They need: A marquee or gazebo - preferably with sides and 6 chairs, and they require one hour to set up prior to the event.
About the Artists
The Workshops are run by artists (Andy and Lucy) experienced in providing memorable, high quality creative experiences.
Andy's skills are in the areas of inventiveness, construction, model and prop making and of course a sense of silliness which both children and adults love! He began running workshops in response to children's curiosity about his comic theatre props and how he made them.
Lucy has an extensive knowledge of materials, techniques and processes from printmaking to film making. She has over 10 years experience of facilitating creative activities for both children and adults. She has spent much time working with community Arts charities and has experience of working with children and adults with special needs.
Both workshop leaders are CRB checked, have public liability insurance and can provide a risk assessment for the workshop.
