Manaia Maori Performing Arts Company
Manaia provides workshops designed particularly for corporate audiences. Manaia bases its workshops around the teaching of the haka, a vigorous explosive dance that is steeped in New Zealand's history and more recently made famous by New Zealand's national rugby football team the All Blacks.
Our workshops provide an opportunity for participants to experience first hand Maori culture and dance. Manaia's performers will firstly provide an explosive performance of the haka in traditional costume. We take participants through the meaning of the haka Ka Mate, the circumstances in which it was composed and the meaning of haka in general to Maori people. The haka Ka Mate is then taught to the participants and all perform it as a finale, often in teams competing against each other.
Our haka workshops are ideal for corporate events, bringing alive the idea of laying down a challenge, working as a team, or celebrating achievements. It gives the participants the opportunity to experience a unique culture, try something very different, to step outside their comfort zones, be expressive, and of course to have fun.
The workshops are usually between 30 minutes to 1 hour long and can be designed to meet your needs or requirements.:
