Stefan Gates
Gates is a Gastronaut: an epicurean adventurer using food to understand the world and its people.#
His critically-acclaimed books and TV series have won awards including Best TV Series at the Bologna Food on Film Festival.
He's intelligent, intrepid, mischievous and funny (he used to be a BBC comedy producer) and he loves extraordinary food.
Stefan wrote and presented 3 series of Cooking in the Danger Zone for BBC2, travelling to the world's most difficult and dangerous places to find out how people survive. It has been immensely popular, selling to over 20 countries and is now broadcast globally on BBC World.
He presented the prime-time magazine show Full on Food (BBC2), hundreds of episodes of studio show Food Uncut (UKTV Food), and his most recent project, Gastronuts, a format he developed for BBC1, aired in 2009.
Stefan wrote Gastronaut (BBC Books), an outrageous food book that uses gastronomy as a catalyst for adventure, sex, art and love. With recipes, of course. He has also written In the Danger Zone (Random House) and 101 Dishes to Eat Before You Die (Parragon, pub Xmas 2009).
Stefan chairs events, performs cookery demonstrations, writes for newspapers and magazines and appears on radio and TV shows as a guest.
