Roger Tomkins

'We asked some of our most regular DJs to run through some bits and pieces about themselves - Roger.....'

I've been DJing since the start of the 1980's (I was only a child at the time - that's my story and I'm sticking to it) and have also worked on several independent radio stations in Derbyshire & Shropshire.

I now specialise in prestige & corporate events, and have played at many of the top hotels and venues in the UK - including the International Convention Centre Birmingham (ICC), NEC, ExCel (London), Reebok Stadium (Bolton), Corn Exchange (Edinburgh), as well as functions in Europe (Prague & Barcelona)

Among the most memorable are the Players function at the Cartier Polo day at Windsor, working alongside Tony Blackburn at the Reebok Stadium & Corn Exchange, with Lenny Henry at the ICC, Ruby Wax also at the ICC, Sheila Ferguson at ExCel, Paul Ross and the wonderful Peter Kay at the Birmingham Metropole - amazing nights!

However, the job that really stands out is December 1983 - The first time I picked up the microphone. It was a case of having to, one of our turntables had broken down, so I was bullied into talking between songs while my mate changed the record on the remaining turntable. Needless to say, I sort of got the taste for it !!!

Client list? - far too many to list but to give an idea, here are a few of the more recent - KPMG, RBS, HSBC, Hewlett Packard, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Paramount, British Telecom, O2, PC World, HMV, HBOS,Vodafone.

Favourite tracks? How long have you got? Can't say I love or hate any particular style of music, but one of my all time favourite dance tunes has to be : Billy Ocean - Love Really Hurts. I've had it in my box of songs for over 20 years and It has never failed to fill the floor.

Oh, sorry - What do I love about DJing? Apart from the late nights?

I always tell the audience that "it is my job to make you dance tonight". And, yea, it is!!! But the buzz you get when you see a dance floor full of people enjoying themselves is simply indescribable. It's like a drug.

Just a quick email to thank Classique Promotions for the superb entertainment provided for us on Saturday night. Elvis (Kevin Paul) certainly got the room a rocking and the ladies very excited! Magician (Sean Carpenter) was fantastic too, and the DJ (Roger Tomkins) kept the room going really well. I would have no hesitation recommending your company to friends, business associates etc. seeking good live entertainment. Hi all at Classique

Sorry its taken me so long to write, but I just wanted to ask you to pass my thanks onto Roger for doing such a wonderful job at our wedding.

Please apologise that everything over-ran and started late.  However, it didn't matter at all, as I have never seen a dance floor so full at a wedding. He played a great mix of music and everyone has commented on it!  We had a great time so please do send a big thank you to him. Best regards - Yvonne - August 2005

Dear Classique

A Little note to say a BIG THANK YOU for Saturday night. Everyone you booked for us was just superb.

Literally the whole room swarmed onto the dance floor when the music started at 10pm. The floor remained packed until 2 a.m. - which is a testament to the quality of the band (Fully Funktional) and the DJ (Roger Tomkins)

The Digital Event Paparazzi and the magicians (Russ Stokes and Chris Peskett) also went down a treat. Thanks for all your efforts From Midlands Circuit Barristers Ball - July 2005 - I.C.C. Birmingham

Dear Roger

At last I have time to write a note of thanks for the disco at Fiona and David's wedding.

I know people were reluctant to go inside as it was such a warm evening, but I think everyone enjoyed dancing at some point in the evening, and Roger provided music to suit everyone - at a reasonable volume too!!!!!  Thank you for helping to make it a perfect day Sue Collins 27th July 2002

Absolutely fantastic!! Thank you so very much for all your efforts with the entertainment for our wedding on 19th May 2001 at Charlecote Park. The day was a tremendous success - everything went perfectly to plan and was everything we had both always wanted.

Indeed, please pass on a massive thank you to Roy Forbes and his Band for setting the perfect atmosphere throughout the day. Every one of our guests fell in love with them! Throughout the day and dinner, they played beautiful music, and just as we sat down to eat, Roy sang our two favourite songs of all time - The Girl from Ipanema and The Lady is a Tramp - perfect timing! Also, please pass on our sincere thanks to Roger for a wonderful disco, it was a tribute to his skills that every single guest was dancing at some point during the evening.

Apologies for the delay in writing, but trying to come back down to earth after such a wonderful day and fantastic honeymoon, we're sure you will appreciate, has been quite difficult.

It would be very much appreciated if you could send us Roy's details for us to monitor his performances and maybe attend one or two in the Midlands. Also, could you please let us know whether he has a CD available - so many of our family have asked us for a copy following our successful day, the Royalties could be quite profitable!

Many thanks once again.

yours sincerely
