Hailed as the “biggest new rock act in the world” by Rolling Stone, 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) is the only band in history to see its first two full-length studio albums enter the Billboard 200 at No. 1.

5SOS have sold over 10 million albums. Their self-titled debut album has sold more than 2.2 million units worldwide, with 1.5 million albums and more than 1.8 billion worldwide track streams. In 2016 the band played 101 SOLD OUT arena shows around the world.

2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good charted at No. 1 in 12 countries, including the U.S., the U.K. and Australia, being the first Australian band in history to be simultaneously #1 in those three countries. “She’s Kinda Hot,” the album’s first single, topped the iTunes charts in 44 countries. After a year promoting the record and playing their 101 sold out arena shows in 2016, 5SOS spent the last year living, writing and recording in Los Angeles.

On 5 February 2020, the band announced their fourth studio album Calm, and released "No Shame", the third single from the album, at the same time. On 16 February 2020 the band performed at Fire Fight Australia, a televised concert at ANZ Stadium in Sydney raising money for bush-fire relief.  

On 21 February 2020, the band released "Old Me," as a promotional single from Calm, before releasing it to radio as the album's fourth single on 6 March 2020.  On 25 March 2020, the band released "Wildflower" as the fifth and final single from Calm. With song promotion halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the song peaked at number twelve on the Australian Artists chart.

On 27 March 2020, the band released their fourth studio album Calm. The album peaked at #2 in the US, earning the band their fifth top 10 album on the Billboard 200 chart. 

In June, Billboard named the album as one of the Top 50 Best Albums of 2020.

The band is set to embark on their headlining world tour, the No Shame Tour, in 2021. The tour was originally set to begin in 2020, but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 23 September 2020, Irwin announced the release of his debut solo album, titled Superbloom, released on 23 October 2020. He is the first member of the band to release a solo project. Irwin stated, "It brings me the greatest joy of all that I am in a band that allows me to create freely inside and outside of it".

5SOS – comprising Luke Hemmings (vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (vocals/guitar), Calum Hood (vocals/bass) and Ashton Irwin (vocals/drums) – has won an American Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, five MTV European Music Awards, two ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
